Description
Born in Juneau, Alaska, Dauenhauer’s father was a fisherman and carver, her mother a beader. At times the family lived on a fishing boat and in seasonal camps. Dauenhauer’s first language was that of her tribe, Tlingit. She learned to speak English when she was eight. Both languages are present in this volume.
